We began the class by exploring the correspondences between Gemini and Sagittarius. The warm-up was gentle, awakening the spine and syncing breath with each stretch. We then focused on arm mobility and flexibility, preparing for the agility of both arms and mind that Gemini demands.
We entered the world of Gemini. The body became a conversation—movements shifting like scattered thoughts, never still, always in motion. We explored voguing sequences, our hands sculpting invisible dialogues, our arms cutting through space with precision and style.
Then came the dance of communication. One body "spoke," the other "listened"—not with ears, but with movement. A game of reaction, response, and improvisation. Gemini’s energy thrives in exchange, in multiplicity, in the electric space between bodies in dialogue.
Finally, we let the energies collide. A guided improvisation wove together Gemini’s quick agility and Sagittarius’ bold expansion. We became the question and the answer, the restless mind and the fearless explorer. Working in pairs, we explored balance—one body advancing as the other retreated—embodying the tension between boundless expansion and the need for connection. A dance between thinking and knowing, between scattered ideas and clear communication.
Then, we entered Sagittarius’ realm. Sagittarius responded with limitless jumps, outstretched arms, a body in perpetual motion—a seeker on an endless journey. Expansive, ruled by Jupiter, full of air and fire.
We stepped outside the studio, training to "fly" using classical dance techniques. We used the hallway railing as a ballet barre, working on leg exercises: cloches, attitudes, frappés, demi-pliés, relevés, and small jumps in first and second position. The barre grounded us in strength before we launched into the air.
Next, we explored different types of jumps. The leaps became offerings to the sky, fueled by the fire of our muscles and the trust in our own trajectory. Sagittarius does not hesitate—it leaps, knowing the net will appear.
The body became an arrow, aiming toward an unseen horizon. We spun in large circles, jumped, and stretched our limbs toward something beyond our reach. Each jump was a question; each landing, an answer.
To integrate Sagittarius’ movement even further, we offered the choice between two choreographic options: an expansive movement sequence or a precise leg coordination sequence.
We chose the latter, even though I warned it would be the hardest. Classic Sagittarius—overconfident!
Gathering in a circle, we followed the movement sequence to the end. It was challenging, but everyone seemed thrilled by the challenge!
At the end, we took a moment to write down our reflections on the class.
Some questions to ponder this time:
What is the difference between learning movements separately (e.g., right arm, then left arm) versus integrating them?
When we communicate something, do we find it easier to interpret or to express?
Where do we hesitate? Where do we leap?
How do we hold both energies—curiosity and conviction, adaptability and purpose—within ourselves?
Gemini flutters, Sagittarius soars. One gathers information, the other seeks truth. One asks the questions, the other lives them.
What will happen next time when we embody Capricorn and Cancer? I can't wait! See you in the next class.
